Eric Johnson grew up in Austin, Texas. His grandfather, Stan Johnson, Sr., started Stan’s Heating & Air Conditioning in Austin in 1954, one of Austin’s original HVAC companies. Stan’s became a leader in the late 1960s in providing “central air conditioning,” a new technology then becoming affordable to the average homeowner. Eric’s father, Stan Johnson, Jr., carried on the family business and eventually became Chairman of the Air Conditioning Contractors of America during President Obama’s first year in office. Stan’s was always focused on cutting-edge technology to improve efficiency and save customers money. Eric grew up working every summer at Stan’s spending sweltering days in attics and seeing first-hand his grandfather’s and father’s commitment to innovation, efficiency and customer value.
Eric is currently a corporate and securities Partner in Winston & Strawn’s Houston office. For over 20 years he has focused his practice in the oil and gas industry, representing clients in mergers and acquisitions, capital markets transactions and public company governance matters, including ESG and energy transition issues. He also co-chairs Winston’s world-wide ESG Advisory Team. Eric’s interest in ESG issues, inspired in part by his grandfather and father, and his public commentary on ESG headwinds for the oil and gas industry, including capital flight, resulted in him crossing paths with the OGGN™ team in mid-2020. Eric and Elevate co-host Sean McCoy quickly discovered that they shared a vision for telling the oil and gas industry’s ESG story. They want to share with the world amazing ESG successes by industry participants, and to demonstrate that oil and gas will play a critical role in the accelerating energy evolution.
